Very rare and interesting old letter opener. It is modeled after a WWI German Artillery Officer's sword . Curved blade with lion head pommel! It has a total length of about 7.5" and weighs 1 oz. The blade is fairly sharp.
Damage: I believe this piece originally had a knuckle bow hand guard (curved piece running from the lion's mouth to the cross guard - search images of the officer sword to see what I mean) but it is broken off / missing. The sections where it broke off from have been smoothed down so you don't even know it's missing. There are lots of scratches and rust on both the blade and handle which can be seen in the provided close-up photos. Otherwise this piece is in fine condition with no other serious damage.
This is a very rare collectible that is worth over $100 in good condition!
